Pera, Istanbul, Turkey is a historic neighborhood located in the Beyoğlu district. It was a cosmopolitan area during Ottoman times and was mainly inhabited by foreigners, mainly Levantines. Pera has been the cultural center of Istanbul throughout the centuries and the area preserved its historical and cultural features. The name "Pera" comes from the Greek word "πέρα", meaning "the other side", as it is located across the Golden Horn from the historic peninsula of Istanbul. Today, Pera is known for its vibrant nightlife, art galleries, museums, restaurants, and luxury hotels.
